CNC Laser Profiling
With its new Trumpf 4050 5kw 4x2 metre bed laser profiling centre, City Engineering has the latest and most productive laser technology of any company in the South West. With its combination of higher power and linear drives, and incorporating all the most recent technical innovations, the new Trumpf not only cuts much thicker materials but cuts all materials much more quickly. This makes City Engineering the most flexible and economical source for all your laser profiles.
The Advantages of Laser Cutting
Laser cutting offers many advantages over other profiling methods. It produces a job of superb quality and accuracy including holes (even on thick plate). It is economical and requires no tooling, and is an excellent choice both for prototyping and production. Most metallic materials can be successfully processed in a wide range of thicknesses up to 25mm, maintaining close tolerances.
CNC Punching
Despite the numerous advantages of laser profiling, it is not always the most appropriate or most cost-effective method of producing a sheet metal blank. CNC Punching machines have lower capital cost than lasers and do not use electric power to nearly the same extent (nor do they have the need for various cutting gases). The operating cost of a punching machine and thence its hourly chargeout rate is considerably lower than laser. It is also true that no laser machine can compete with punching in the speed of producing a large number of similar holes or slots. Equally, some jobs do not require the fine edge finish provided by laser. CNC punching can therefore sometimes offer a viable and economical alternative to laser cutting.
City Engineering operates a new Amada Europe CNC Punching machine capable of up to 800 holes per minute and, unlike most laser job shops, is able to offer alternative methods of manufacture in accordance with customers' preferences.
